After wanting to participate in this unique event for several years, I met Micah True on an all-day run/hike in 2008. He was an extremely genuine and inspiring man, and I decided right then that I would join the next one, in later February 2009. That year 200 Raramuri attended, and only 9 gringos, including Micah. That was a few months before Born to Run was released. The weather was extremely hot, over 100 degrees F (over 40C). I didn't carry a camera during the race, so unfortunately there are none of the raramuri women running in colorful full-length skirts.
